Blogger Tip: How to Put Links in Blogger Comments

UPDATE: 16th of March 2013: OVER 300 COMMENTS!!!

Wow! Glad this has helped so many people. I spent so long trying to work this out for myself, that it made sense to share that solution with people, so that it would be easy for you all to do this.

People have asked about people spamming. Yeah, there's been some spamming, but it hasn't been that bad. I'm giving you the opportunity to link to your stuff, so why not? Most people haven't abused that. I've deleted about 50 to 80 comments, I suppose, which isn't many really.

If you are looking for ways to make some money online, but you're fearful of being scammed - which I know is a lot of people - I just came out with a new book to help with that. Check it out. Might help you: How to Choose the Right Network Marketing Company.

OK ... here's what you came here for ... link away!

-----------------

You know when you try to leave a link in the comments section of Blogger blogs and it never links? There's a way around that. Don't abuse this, obviously, but this is such a handy little tip, particularly if you want to link to a particular post.

First of all, make sure you are on the page for this particular post. Do that by clicking on the title above. Done that? Great! Now, if you look down, you'll see buttons so you can spread the love and share this with Blogger friends if you find it useful (they'll love you for it). Now, bookmark it so you can come back if you need to. You'll notice the URL is different. It's not http://thebexter.com - it'll have the title after it too. This is the kind of URL you need if you want to link to a particular post - whether on your blog or someone else's - in a comment. If you just link to the home page, the post you like may not be current.

Right, here's the clever bit. Pick the post you want to link to in a comment on someone's site, then type this into the comment box:

<a href="http://thebexter.com">The Bexter Review</a>

Simply replace the first red text with the URL of the post or blog you want to link to, and make the second URL the text you want to display. So that would show up as The Bexter Review in a comment, and would link back here.

Simple!

Try it out by commenting here.

Rebecca

P.S. If you want more free tips and training like this, put your details in the form in the sidebar.

P.P.S. Leaving comments is a good way to direct traffic to your site - as long as you don't spam - but if you're not making the money you want, it could be that something as simple as your mindset is holding you back. Check out my interview with the legendary Ray Higdon on this. Could be a real game changer for you. The Mindset Behind the Magic: Money Acceptance.

  3. Hi Trish,

It works. You may have missed a letter out or something. I can't put it so you can cut and paste it, or it disappears into the blog (since it's code), but there's an easy way to copy it:

Click the Start button, open notepad. If you've got the latest version of Windows, 'snap' it to the right of the screen, then type the code exactly as you see it, replacing the red bits with 1/your URL and 2/the text you want displayed.

    It will look like this...

  14. I'm wondering if it's possible to have a link be, well, linked in a comment *without* the user having to use the html code. I have a few folks that won't use my blog unless it's extremely simple.

    Thanks!

  15. If there was an easier way to do it, wouldn't I have told you it?

I'm a bit confused by your question. I don't work for Blogger, they just gave me an award. I'm as much affiliated to them or Google as you are. If you want them to make this easier, you'll need to speak to them.

Mind you... if they do... come back and tell me, because the HTML thing annoys the heck out of me too. That's why this post brings SO much traffic to my blog. This comment link stuff annoys EVERYONE!! :)

  16. Your name automatically hyperlinks to your profile anyhow though, and nobody HAS to put URLs into comments, it's just cool to be one of the few who knows how to do it.

  20. Glad this is helping so many people! I'm going to start putting up more tips like this. I'm also being approached with loads of cheap offers which might help you, too, so I'll be sharing more of those too. Obviously, as a blogger for Groupon, I get a heads up on great limited time deals before other people do so ... maybe I'll sneakily share some of those too. Have a look around. :)

  49. Tee -- You can use this in numerous places. On WordPress blogs, though, the trick is to look for places that have CommentLuv Premium and that has 'do follow' links. The effect for your blog traffic and personal branding is AMAZING if you comment on those (better than Blogger). The key is to link to something of value - a decent blog post - and comment often so you get featured in the sidebar. It's free advertising, and only the best blogs tend to have the premium version. Here's one of mine: Join-Rebecca.com/blog

If you look in the sidebar, you'll see featured commenters and notice that their websites are all promoted. Powerful stuff. If you actually HAVE CommentLuv Premium then your blog becomes a comment magnet. You can pick it up on my blog - Join-Rebecca.com/blog in the sidebar. Big box with CommentLuv on it. Can't miss it. There's a free version you can get through that link too, but it's not as much of a comment magnet.
